SUNSET WINDMILL

The Dutch started building windmills as early as 1,200 AD. to use them grinding grains. In the 19th century, there were more than 9,000 windmills in the Netherlands. However, there are only around 1,200 that still exist nowadays since fewer and fewer windmills are being used and maintained.

Historically, the most essential function of windmills in Holland is to pump water out of the lowlands and then back into the rivers beyond the banks so that the land could be farmed. Later, other applications were added, such as making paint, sawing tree trucks, and pressing oil.

These majestic windmills have long been a favorite of mine so I created this masterpiece with a bright sunset reflecting in the water to highlight on the stunning distinction of these windmills.

This product includes archival quality protective varnish, and a dust cover and hanging hardware if framed.

Originals are painted using high quality artist grade acrylic paint on double sided, tempered, masonite (hard board) which is very durable and, unlike canvas, will never stretch or flex and crack the paint.
